Everyone knows they can lose weight and get healthy. You cut calories, eliminate bad foods and do some form of exercise. Sounds simple, right? Than why is it so difficult? Why do so many of us fail to see it through all the way and give up? As I’ve mentioned many times, the first thing we need to do is to stop believing it only takes 30 to 90 days or we can have abs overnight.
I read a great book by Brian Tracy titled Reinvention and applied some of his teachings that have helped tremendously, not only in eating and working out but in many other areas of my life such as finances, relationships and spirituality. The premise is to decide what it is you would like to be doing in five years and create the plan on how you get there. Sounds very simple, I know, but there is a lot to it! First off, you really have to want to get to your goal and you have to be passionate about it. But more importantly, you have to KNOW you can get there and have FAITH. And when I say faith, let me define.
We sometimes confuse faith with hope and the two are worlds apart. I love the story of the small farming town that was in desperate need of rain and decided to all meet in one of the fields and pray for rain. When the time came, everyone showed up as scheduled but one stood out from all the rest. It was the young girl, standing just outside the group, holding an umbrella (the only one there with an umbrella). That is faith. Like I said earlier, you can lose weight, gain muscle, get rich or whatever you choose but you truly have to KNOW you can. One you know you can, you need to do what others have done successfully and copy them. Do what they do! Eat what they eat, do the exercises they do and you will see results. How do you find someone that’s done it? Read books, Google, look for blogs, etc. The information is out there and usually it’s free.
Once you understand that you CAN do it, you need to visualize yourself reaching your goals. Act as if you’ve already made it. The best way to do this is to sit quietly for 15 minutes a day and create a mental slide show of you at your goal. Just as important is to attach some emotion to it. What does it feel like? How do you look? What are other people saying to you and how does that make you feel? Really get into it and watch that slide show daily.
Now back to the five year plan. Take stock of where you are now, where you want to be and how you are going to get there. For me, I went big. I want to be as fit as I can possibly be and show others that age should not restrict us. I visualize myself as a mid fifty year old with minimal body fat, strong, lean muscle, blogging about my journey, creating a You Tube channel, creating a Twitter account, having thousands of followers and helping others achieve their goals. And how was I going to get there? Find others who have done all of these. I read as much as I can about low carb eating and exercise, found out how to start a blog, continue to read about getting followers and got to work! I still haven’t created the You Tube channel but I will!
I still have a LONG way to go, but I can literally see it. I can feel it when I sit for 15 minutes each day and I get excited every time. And more importantly, I have faith. I know this will happen and that’s what makes me tick. So start your plan and KNOW it can happen. The key to success is action. It doesn’t matter where you are coming from. All that matters is where you are going.
